ROAD-READY GUIDE

Temporary insurance for the drive to an MOT.

Insurance is still required. Check the current legal rules, the vehicle’s condition and the appointment before taking it onto the road.

01

An MOT exemption is limited

A vehicle without a current MOT may sometimes be driven to a pre-arranged test under current rules, but that does not remove the need for insurance or make an unsafe vehicle legal to drive. Check official guidance for the exact circumstances.

02

Book before setting off

Keep the appointment details and make sure the route and timing genuinely relate to the test. Different rules may apply to other journeys or to driving away after a failed test.

03

Confirm the car is roadworthy

Tyres, lights, brakes and other safety-critical parts must be suitable for the road. If the car is unsafe, arrange transport rather than driving it.

04

Match the policy to the journey

Enter the correct registration, choose enough time and read the permitted use. Wait for policy confirmation before driving to the test centre.
